You have a pool in your garden and, during a heatwave or a garden party, it’s great.
However, any responsible homeowner knows that with a pool comes additional features to keep the pool, the home residents, and the pets safe. One thing you don’t want to mess up on is pool safety, and there are many easy ways to make your residential pool safer and easier to use.
Fencing and Physical Barriers
A good defense to help keep your pool safe is a fence or another physical barrier around it.
You could opt for wooden paneling or a glass fencing setup, which can match more modern homes. The core thing to check for is that the barrier has a door that can be locked and can prevent kids, pets, and wildlife from getting in.
Alarms
Pool alarms can be extreme, but if you have kids or a dog that likes swimming in the pool, you will need one or more installed to keep everyone safe.
You can place an alarm on the fencing or other entry point into the pool. Why not have an alarm in the pool? Called wave alarms, these go off if there is a person or creature in the pool causing waves, which can be helpful for saving lives, but also for getting wildlife that may be drowning out of your pool quickly.
Chemical Maintenance
A pool that doesn’t have its chemicals checked weekly is a pool that is going to cause skin irritation and potentially cause fungal issues.
You can check your pool water weekly with home-testing kits, and with the aid of pool chemical kits, you can correct any imbalances quickly. Just be sure to store the chemical kits somewhere safe and to make sure you wear the correct equipment when handling them. The last thing you or your family needs is a chemical burn.
Non-Slip Surfaces
The surface around a pool can become slippery, and if you run, you can fall and injure yourself.
With a pool, why not prevent this potential issue with non-slip surfaces around the edge? You can try to have concrete put down, which looks great with a modern pool and home, or why not have natural stone pavers, if you want something that looks more natural? There is also the option to have rubber and travertine placed around the pool. Make sure that there are no obstacles around the pool that could be a trip hazard, such as chairs, toys, and pool noodles.
Cameras
Many people have cameras around their homes these days. Cameras can also be a great way to keep an eye on your pool from inside your home, and, paired with transparent fencing around the pool, it is easier than ever to keep an eye on kids (and pets) without having to sit poolside.
Remember, if you are planning to sell your home anytime soon, having a pool is a boon, but having a pool that is safe is more desirable to buyers.
