Limerick, Ireland – A man has been arrested following the seizure of a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine in a significant operation by local authorities. The arrest occurred during a targeted raid carried out by Gardaí in a residential area of Limerick on Wednesday.
The operation, which was part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the region, uncovered an estimated €50,000 worth of the illicit substance. In addition to the drugs, a substantial sum of cash and drug paraphernalia, including weighing scales and packaging materials, were also recovered from the premises.
The suspect, an adult male in his thirties, was arrested at a Garda station close to the scene under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act of 1996. He is currently detained for further interrogation as police continue with the investigations.
Gardaí involved in the operation were commended for their good cooperation by the superintendent Aoife Brennan. “This seizure obviously offers a major disruption in relation to the supply and circulation of illegal drugs in Limerick. That is why we are dedicated to preventing those drugs from getting out into the streets and harming other citizens.

Members of the public said that they were surprised at the discovery, while others thanked Gardaí for being on the alert. ‘’It is disgusting to learn this has happened near our home but we are happy to note the Gardaí is deploying serious actions,’ said one resident.
The seized substances have been sent for forensic analysis to confirm their composition. Authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as part of the wider investigation into drug-related activities in the area.
