Two people hurt in car and bus crash; one taken to the hospital in County Limerick

A WOMAN sustained serious injuries today (Saturday) when a car she was in hit a bus with children onboard at about 2.45 pm near the village of Ballylanders, Co Limerick.

The injured woman was then helicoptered by the HSE’s national air ambulance to the Cork University Hospital with an internal head bleed.

Four other people who were in the event received minor injuries.

It has been estimated on social media that there were 23 children on the bus at the time of the attack. Unfortunately, all the people on the bus were lucky and none had critical or fatal injuries.

The R513 is still blocked for use until Gardai is joined by a Garda Forensic Collision Investigator who will then conduct a technical analysis of the vehicles and the crash site.

The Gardaí, the National Ambulance Service, and firemen from Kilmallock in Co. Limerick and north Cork all took part in a huge emergency response program.

The Shannon-based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter (115) was also launched and while en route to the scene, it was also stood down.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Around 2.50 pm, Gardaí and other emergency services were informed of an accident between a car and a bus on the R513, Ballylanders Road in County Limerick.”

“An adult female in the car – as in, the car they were all in -, has been flown to Cork University Hospital with grave injuries.”

“Medical professionals at the scene checked on all the bus passengers to make sure they were okay, and none of them needed to be taken to the hospital right away.”

“The road is under closure and local diversions are in place.”

The Garda spokesperson also said that at the time there is no more information and that a report from the scene is still pending.
