18-Month Sentence for Limerick Man Who Threatened Garda with Violent Remark

Limerick, Ireland – A Limerick man is serving an 18-month prison term for the verbal attack on a Garda officer following a trial where evidence was given of the boast made to the officer: “I’ll bite your f**king jaw off.” The defendant raised his voice and threatened to kill the victim during a small altercation that turned ugly when the Garda arrived on the scene.

The prosecution narrated how the event happened that led to the arrest of the man when in court. What is freely available among the related reports is that the witnesses stated the man had been hostile, and the verbal threat made at the Garda constituted the second charge. While the defense admitted that the man acted nothing of the sort, they said that many things happened to him: stressors that played a part in his conduct.

The sentencing judge also went on to berate the aggressive threat and called for respect towards police officers and the law. “The of such threats is a direct threat to the individuals involved in public service,” the judge said about threats included in the song which involved violent language towards Garda personnel.

The court’s verdict shows a consistent approach toward policing aggressive and threatening behavior and emphasizes that escalation to violence will not go unpunished. The affected person will be incarcerated to serve his imprisonment term from the time of the convictions, unlike undergoing a suspension of the imprisonment order.
